This project is trying to critique a specific phenomenon on Chinese social media platform RED (Xiaohongshu), focusing on the rigid use of hashtags and categories concerning Chinese lesbians. The project argues that the use of such hashtags on RED reinforces fixed categories, thereby obstructing the understanding of sexual orientation and gender fluidity. It consists of two parts. Part one is translating the categories from RED visually through the media of specimens which including a book named Lala specimen sets and a specimens board for displaying this specimens system. Part two is a board game called Guess Who: Lala family. Through interactive gameplay, participants are encouraged to break down the categories in part one, to confront and reconsider categories and stereotypes of gender and sexual orientation, ultimately fostering a critical examination of the categories on RED.
