Chinese women are usually regarded as aesthetic objects rather than aesthetic subjects. Under the external gaze, women in contemporary social interaction show the contradiction of body and appearance. Through the experiment of the beauty camera and the analysis of Chinese physiognomy, I chose to use the form of an illustration book to tell the troubles caused by appearance issue. In “A TALE OF ONE FACE”, I replaced the male character with the daily situation of women in the current society. For example, he has high standards for his own appearance. In addition, he is gazed everywhere in life. Will the male audience, who enjoys great appearance tolerance, reflect on the harshness of women’s appearance after reading this illustrated book?
